THE PLAYER;

Your age: 23

THE CHARACTER;
Series/Fandom: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Character's Name: Kaworu Nagisa
Character's Sex: Male
Character's Age: 15
Canon point: Post Episode 24.
Abilities: Kaworu hosts the soul of Adam, and therefore he has many different strong abilities that he has an easy time willing into existence. He is capable of synching with Eva Unit 02’s unit as high or as low as he wants to. The only thing that stops him from merging with it completely is the fact that it already is host to another soul. Kaworu’s soul generates an immensely powerful A.T. field, which generates a protective barrier around him.
Strengths: Kaworu’s psychology is different from most characters, so he will display immunity to mind-tampering and other illusions with the exception of mod-based plots. Kaworu is capable of using levitation on himself, as well as technological manipulation to get through the security systems that protect Terminal Dogma. However, since he only manipulates objects that have no souls (or, in Eva Unit 02’s case, a dormant soul), any telekinetic abilities will only work on non-living objects.
Weaknesses: Despite his Angel abilities, Kaworu displays some of the normal human frailties. For example, normally in order to defeat an Angel, one has to pierce its core, the source of its power (the S2 engine) and soul. However, all Shinji has to do is behead Kaworu. In Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, and Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, he is shown living on the moon without any protection, despite the surrounding vacuum, radiation, and lack of livable conditions. I’m guessing this might have something to do with his A.T. field, but I don’t want to make him insanely powerful. So, while he may be more impervious to Darkness, I’m going to dampen the extent of this ability. Also, there’s no reason to assume he has any strong fighting abilities when outside of an Eva unit.

Background: Listen to my story—oh wait, wrong fandom
Appearance: I'm as normal as you. | We're not quite the same.
Personality: Kaworu is often seen smiling calmly. He has an odd way of speaking sometimes, and he’s generally unruffled. He doesn’t reveal much about himself, appearing in the series almost similarly to a phantom. Characters have commented on the inhuman aura that he seems to have.

Well, that might be because Kaworu’s soul isn’t human. Humans—Homo sapiens, anyway—are referred to by Kaworu as the Lilim. He’s an Angel, both the first Angel 17th Angel to be more precise, seeing as his body hosts the soul of the first Angel. Angels are a race of humanity, but separate and with traits most people wouldn’t normally associate with humanity.

Kaworu’s purpose is complicated. As the Fifth Child, recruited by the mysterious organization known as SEELE, he’s an ally, able to use the Evangelions, large cyborg humans with the appearance of mecha, along with Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami. As an Angel, once he reunites with Adam, the Third Impact would occur. Life as we know it would cease to exist so that the Angels could thrive. While SEELE wants Kaworu to reunite with Lilith, the second Angel, bringing about a different sort of Third Impact, Kaworu’s nature bounds him to reunite with Adam.

However, despite the fact that he’s human in body alone, he expresses kindness in the sense of the virtue, something many people strive to do. He’s kind to Shinji, despite having just met him. He doesn’t hold him, or the rest of the Lilim, at fault. When Shinji falls to his personal despair, Kaworu reaches out to him, giving him a beacon, letting him know that he isn’t alone. Why does he do this? It contradicts with his mission.

The answer might be in his Angel name and title: Tabris, or the Angel of free will. Kaworu is kind to Shinji because he wants to be. He gains nothing from it, other than knowledge about the Lilim – a concept he’s still unfamiliar with. However, he isn’t harmed in the process, either. Free will, the gift of choice, is a major theme for Kaworu, and also something he values. It’s why he chooses to learn more about the Lilim, rather than take the straightforward route for his mission. It’s why he completely changes his mind after meeting Shinji. As the final Angel, Kaworu has a gift the other Angels were only just beginning to understand: self-awareness. Kaworu does what he wants because he wants to, and because it feels right. If the Lilim are known for their ability to calculate and their sentience, while Angels are known for their sheer power and will, it’s no surprise that Kaworu is comfortable with following his heart and feelings. His willful nature might also be partially due to his relationship with SEELE. His history is mostly unknown, but the possibility of being raised and ordered by such a controlling organization might have unintentionally brought about some of his rebellion and desire to carry out his own plans.

Kaworu’s nature, along with his general inexperience with the Lilim, makes him clash with them at times, but it also ends up being a strength. Social norms people are raised around and expected to know hold little meaning to Kaworu. Why should they? He isn’t one of them. Additionally, as seen in the manga, his idea of kindness might seem cruel or detached in the eyes of many people. He isn’t intentionally cruel, or malicious though. He just doesn’t fully grasp the Lilim. That’s why he wants to learn more about them.

That’s one reason why he approaches and befriends Shinji Ikari, the Third Child and pilot of unit Evangelion Unit-01. What starts out as curiosity becomes something else in the short time they know one another. Kaworu does love Shinji, unconditionally at that. He doesn’t necessarily love him in a romantic sense, but he loves him because Shinji needs it, and loving Shinji gives Kaworu a purpose he wants. He becomes protective of Shinji, loving the rest of the Lilim through one individual. It’s thanks to his time with Shinji, that he decides to go against his original purpose. It’s because of Shinji, that he chooses to die by his friend’s very hand. In the End of Evangelion, merged with Lilith/Rei, Kaworu also shows some traits that could be interpreted as protective as well. His image appears when Shinji is in hysterics, comforting him. He argues against the idea of Instrumentality—he wants Shinji to do what he wants. It’s why he died in the first place: for his own free will, and so that Shinji could find his.

Yet, Kaworu’s decision is a painful one. He betrays Shinji’s feelings, in fact he betrays SEELE and his own kind too in the process. Kaworu acknowledges it’s painful, musing to himself that: “The hope of man is written in sorrow.” He knows how it hurts Shinji, but also realizes it’s the only way to save him. They simply aren’t allowed to coexist. When facing Shinji, Kaworu smiles, offering any sort of comfort he can give him. When looking away, only then does he look more somber, maybe a little pained, as he acknowledges this truth.

SAMPLES;
Action/Journal Sample: [The video shows Kaworu smiling calmly. Yep, it’s time for more questions.]

I recently visited one of your worlds. I believe it was called Destiny Islands? One of the Lilim showed me something called a Paopu fruit, and along with it told me a very interesting legend that originated there. If two people share one, they’ll always be apart of eachother’s lives. Their destinies become intertwined.

[Still smiling, he looks at the sand, drawing in it with his foot.]

Relying on an object to stay connected to the people you care about—it seems unreliable to me. The best way to stay close to the people you want to would be to decide to do so yourself. Even then, there are things out of our control that can happen; no one remains apart of anyone’s lives for forever. That’s okay, because you can always make new connections.

Ah, but I’m curious. Were there any similar legends on your worlds?

RP Sample: Most people would have been in a panic, or at the very least upset to know that their world was engulfed in Darkness and they were now trapped between a few unfamiliar worlds.

The same couldn’t be said about Kaworu. In only a few days, he had made it his personal agenda to see as many of the new worlds as possible. Currently, he was residing in Twilight Town. He stood in Tram Common, watching as a few people who looked about his age passed him, laughing and chatting about something while enjoying Sea Salt Icecream. It was a novelty unique to this one world, and Kaworu made a mental note to try it. While he was only one of the Lilim in form alone, he could still enjoy life through the senses his body provided. The way the setting sun warmed his shoulders, neck, and bridge of his nose made him smile, bringing back nostalgic, if not recent memories of his meeting with Shinji.

Shinji.

So Shinji was trapped somewhere in the Darkness, along with the rest of the Lilim. Kaworu would have to do something about that. He bowed his head slightly and shut his eyes, smiling in that odd way that may have made any passerby question what exactly was on his mind. It wouldn’t do to have his sacrifice be in vain. After all, the Lilim still had a long life ahead of them—as long as that was what they wanted. The decision was ultimately Shinji’s, but this was a setback Kaworu hadn’t anticipated. After learning about the Darkness, it became clearer as to why he had found himself in Traverse Town. The human heart was weak, with fears that would make it all too easy to succumb to the Darkness. He, on the other hand, had little such fears. Maybe that’s why he was here now, alive and well. He had made it his purpose to let the Lilim live. Now, it was his mission to follow through with it.

Hands casually in pockets, he leisurely began to approach on of the shops. He would try some of that Sea Salt Icecream while he thought about what he would do next. It seemed that his work wasn’t done.
